About the Paper

I first learned how to fold paper cranes in the 4th grade, during a unit on Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes. Ever since then, I've been experimenting with different types of origami papers. It is amazing to see all of the beautiful, intricate papers that are made around the world. What intrigues me the most is what the papers are made of-- bamboo, banana bark, kozo plant….

I now work with eco-friendly & recycled papers, in the hopes of spreading the word about making creative changes in our lives to help reduce, reuse and recycle. Read about the papers below….

Thai Marbled Momi Paper This beautiful crinkly paper is made of bamboo pulp, and is marbled with a golden glow. (Right)

Recycled Banana Bark Paper is made from salvaged bark and fiber of banana trees when they are cut down after harvesting.

Katazome-Shi Paper is designed using traditional Japanese kimono-printing techniques. Its vibrant colors come from persimmon fruit & soy bean dye.

Japanese Chiyogami Paper is a traditional type of paper from Japan. The word itself means thousand generation paper. This type of paper was first developed in the Edo period (1603-1868). It was originally used for paper dolls, or pasted on tea tins. This paper is made from the inner bark of the Kozo plant, and is hand-silk screened. (Right)

Vintage Postage Stamps are all from my family's personal stamp collection. My Dad collected stamps as a boy, and passed the hobby on to me! The stamps I use in my jewelry are from around the world- from Guyana to Luxembourg.

Recycled Magazines & Newspapers I spent a year studying in France, and when I was there I collected discarded magazines & newspapers from each country I had the chance to travel to: Netherlands, Germany, Paris, Spain & Italy.
